We are happy to announce we are now offering group therapy for teens!

Our group “Together We Stand” is designed for 12-17 year old’s dealing with body dysmorphia/distorted body image, disordered eating and thinking patters, self- esteem challenges, anxiety, or depression. The core focus of the group is to help your teen learn skills to enhance his/her self – esteem, self-confidence, self-acceptance, and to develop healthy and positive skills and strategies – all within a supportive peer environment.

“Together We Stand” is a skills based process group drawing from Dialectical Behavioral Training (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills, two empirically-validated programs that specifically target thoughts, emotions and behaviors.

This is a 10 week program that meets on Saturdays from 2:00-3:00pm. The first session will begin on July 17th!

Sessions 5 and 10 are parent-only sessions that occur on 8/14 & 9/18.

Parent sessions will focus on educating parents on

  • Specific skills and strategies your teen has been working on group, and how to
    foster their development at home
  • Preventative tips
  • What behaviors to look out for, and how to address them proactively
  • Parenting strategies shown to greatly enhance the progress of teens at home.

This group is lead by our Senior teen therapist, Kimberly Brownell, LCSW, and will also be attended by Ginger Sage, our peer mentor. Ginger is a successful graduate from DBT and CBT therapies herself, and serves an integral role in our group, serving as a positive role model to inspire and encourage the group members alongside Kim
Brownell.

We are so thrilled to be able to offer this new service for everyone! If you have any questions or would like to join the group please email or call Brooke, our Office Manager at contact@sdkidsfirst.com // 858-692-4187 and she will be happy to help you!
