This summer we are thrilled to offer two social skills programs designed to help your little ones practice and master their social skills!

Both of our summer programs are available for children ages 3 to 12, are limited in size, and each child will have their own individualized goals to work on within the group setting!

Our two summer social skills programs are:

  1. Summer Social Skills Intensive Program – Group Format (up to 6 children max.)
  2. Social Pairings (2 children max.)

For a more detailed explanation of each program, please see the descriptions below:

Parents often find that transitioning from the classroom setting to the unstructured summer months can be challenging for children and their families. Adjusting to new schedules, separating from their classmates, and meeting new friends require children to expand beyond their comfort zone and adapt to their new environment. With our Summer Social Programs, we are here to make your transition as smooth as possible by preparing your child to build lasting healthy relationships with their peers.

Throughout this process, we are mindful of busy summer schedules. That’s why we have designed our programs through a time-sensitive lens that caters to those who desire to move through each step quickly and efficiently.

Due to an overwhelming response to our previous social skills programs, registration is open immediately and will be filling very quickly. If you are interested PLEASE call our office as soon as possible to reserve a spot for your child.

PROGRAM #1: SUMMER SOCIAL SKILLS INTENSIVE

This program mirrors our traditional social skills groups and has been redesigned to fit families on the go!

We are offering social skills groups for children 3-12 years old. Your group leaders, Alexandra Padilla, BCBA, and Nicolette Herrera, BCBA, will help your child practice social situations with siblings, adults, classmates, play dates, playground settings, birthday parties, and more!

Social skills are essential for future success in all aspects of life. In addition to giving your children the tools they need to be prepared for a lifetime of healthy social interaction with others, our group provides children with strategies for developing self-regulation and building a solid core of self-esteem and self-confidence to navigate situations with peers in the home and in life.

Here are just some of the topics we will be covering:

Effective Communication, Empathy, Compromising, Patience, Active Listening, Body Language, Respecting Personal Space, Apologizing, Eye Contact, Taking Turns. Following Directions, Staying on Task, and Resolving Conflict

PROGRAM #2: SOCIAL PAIRINGS

If your child or student is struggling with social skills, cooperation, engagement, friendship-making skills, or socially appropriate responses, then this program is for you!

One of the most common aspects that we see children struggling with throughout their development is the ability to maintain and implement social skills with same-aged peers. Large classroom sizes and new friendly faces place a high demand on students to begin interacting with others in a new way.

To accommodate children ages 3-12 who may not feel ready for larger social skills groups, we’ve created Social Pairings for more in-depth, individualized, goal-focused sessions between two peers. First, we form our social pairings by conducting a brief intake with caregivers to discuss their child’s strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Then, we will individually select another peer enrolled in the program who best matches your child’s needs. The overall goal is to form a pairing between two peers who will complement and support each other’s social abilities.

Our behavior specialists, Alexandra Padilla, BCBA, and Nicolette Herrera, BCBA, will tailor and conduct each session to accommodate and challenge the pairing’s skillset. Through this pairing, your child will begin learning and practicing new skills in a safe and controlled environment! And who knows, maybe they will make a friend in the process 🙂

We are so excited to be able to provide this service for you! If you have any questions or would like to have your child join one of our summer social skills sessions, please email or call our office at contact@sdkidsfirst.com / (858) 692-4187, and we will be happy to help you!
