I’m excited to announce that San Diego Kids First is offering new openings and appointments for our clients! These targeted services within the community will be provided by our Social Emotional Learning Instructor and School-Support Aide, Brooke Schuman.
In addition to traditional office sessions, Brooke offers in-home, telehealth, camp-based, and school-based services.
Brooke’s services include Social Emotional Learning, Camp Observations, School Readiness, and Classroom/ School Observations.
-Social Emotional Learning Curriculum:
Social Emotional Learning is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, feel and show empathy for others, establish, maintain supportive relationships, and achieve personal and collective goals. People with strong social-emotional skills are better able to cope with everyday challenges and benefit academically, professionally, and socially. There are 5 areas we can address in SEL; self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. I am passionate about teaching and practicing these SEL skills because it benefits the child, family, and community and sets the foundation for life success. In our sessions, I take an individualized developmental approach. I work on the specific areas and skills your child needs for social-emotional growth and development by doing various fun activities that foster a learning environment through exploration, experience, and patience. In this 1:1 setting, children and teens can get individualized attention to set the foundation for success in group social scenarios.
-Camp Observations:
Worried about sending your child to camp? I’ll go with them! Camp is an excellent opportunity for kids to make lifelong friendships and memories. However, we understand that the unstructured setup can be complex (lack of routines, needing breaks, poor emotional regulation, following directions, etc. So, if you have a child that is hoping to attend camp this summer but is facing some challenges throughout their day, I can attend the tasks that they struggle with or stay for all-day support, motivation, and encouragement.
– School Readiness
This service includes social skills training, executive functioning skills, and academic planning for children with developmental disorders such as ASD and ADHD. Brooke will identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses and utilize them to create a school-readiness routine!
-Classroom/School Observations:
I conduct classroom observations to develop an in-depth targeted behavior intervention plan for your little one! This will include organizational skills, classroom behavior, and educational tips/tools. I can also work directly with school directors and administrators on how to work with children who have tricky behavior. This service is available for all preschool, elementary, and middle school students.
We are thrilled to be adding to our scope of services! If you have any questions or want to see these services implemented at your child’s school, please email or call our office at contact@sdkidsfirst.com / (858) 692-4187, and we will be happy to help you!
