These days it seems that our children have more to learn than just their academic curriculum. From elementary through to high school, additional homework responsibilities which rely on skills such as planning ahead, organization, sequencing, decision making, and task persistence are crucial to academic success. Many children struggle in completing their homework on time and to the best of their ability which can result in their underperformance, and compromised self-esteem/self-confidence.

Tips to develop good study and organizational skills:
- Use just one planner for homework, study plan, due dates and personal appointments.
- Use a file box at home to put all completed homework into.
- Prepare your backpack preferably the night before.
- Use Post it notes and high lighters.
- Find a study place where you are less likely to be distracted.
- Don’t answer non-urgent calls or e-mails 2 hours before your appointment.
- Be realistic when you write your to do list. Chunk assignments to reasonable pieces so that you can pace yourself without being overwhelmed.
- Build a time map in order to balance your life and school activities.
- Find out what kind of learner you are, and you will save time and energy in academic pursuits.
- Learn how to say no and stay centered.
