  1. Does Dr. Pontillo accept insurance?
    Dr. Pontillo does not participate on any insurance panels. However, if you have a PPO, our office can bill for your out-of-network benefits. Please contact our bookkeeper Linda (619-224-6343) to check on your benefits.

  2. What are Dr. Pontillo's fees?

  3. How do I submit for insurance coverage?
    As a courtesy, Dr. Pontillo's staff can file insurance claims on your behalf. Checks written by the insurance company are sent directly to you for your reimbursement. Please call our bookkeeper, Linda, for more information (619-224-6343).

  4. How do I pay for appointments? Will I receive a bill in the mail?
    Dr. Pontillo's fees are due at the time of service, via check or cash. Credit cards are not accepted at this time.

  5. When is Dr. Pontillo available to see patients?
    Dr. Pontillo's current office hours are Mondays and Thursdays.

  6. How long is the wait to obtain an initial appointment?
    After-school appointments are the most in-demand, and typically are filled 1 - 4 weeks in advance. Appointments throughout the week during school-hours are typically filled 1 - 2 weeks in advance.

  7. Do I bring my child to the first appointment?
    This depends on what services you are requesting (e.g. a developmental screen, an evaluation, parenting assistance, therapy, etc. Please visit our services page for more information). The main goal of most initial sessions is to collect information and generate an assessment or treatment plan. In general, it is always ideal if both caregivers can attend the initial appointment.

  8. How do I cancel/reschedule an appointment?
    Appointments can be canceled/rescheduled online, or by calling the office at 858-692-4187. Please remember that you are responsible for the full session fee if you cancel your appointment without 24 hours' notice.

  9. How many sessions will my child need?
    This varies considerably based on the presenting problem(s) and will be discussed with you at your initial appointment. Although there are exceptions, the majority of families working with Dr. Pontillo meet their therapeutic goals within 2 - 6 months' time.

  10. Can Dr. Pontillo go to my child's school or talk with my child's teacher?
    Dr. Pontillo regularly consults with teachers, pediatricians, and other professionals who know your child well. Dr. Pontillo also conducts school observations, and can provide detailed behavioral and/or educational plans to your child's educator(s).
